- Owen shows up to tell Nikita he needs her help. Owen released video showing US government killing a Chilean president. The government wonders how it got released and a Jr. Analyst Fletcher tells him about his ghost-unit Division. He wants to go to Chile and Percy tells John to let him go and frame him for the assassination. Owen released the video so Division would go into security breach and help them located the black boxes. Owen apologizes for assassinating Nikita’s fiancé.
- Michael finds out that Owen is alive, and Percy tells Michael that Nikita is only working for herself. Nikita gets into the CIA office in Chile with the help of Owen and saves Fletcher. Michael goes to Chile with his team, and Nikita, Owen, and Fletcher flee and get caught by the Army. Division retreated.
- The Army threatens to shut down Division if Fletcher talks. Fletcher and Nikita talks about Divison, and Nikita tells him to find the part of the government that’s working with them so they can take it down. Fletcher agrees, and Owen gives him proof of Divisions existence. Owen and Nikita jump from the plane.
- At Division, Birkhoff gives the recruits as assignment to make an electronic paper trail for the Chilean president. The engineer meets with Percy and Alex is stopped from following them by Jaden. Percy wants Birkhoff and the Engineer to update the boxes wirelessly.
Alex watches Birkhoff and Engineer argue, and finally end up playing video games. Engineer tells Birkhoff that he knows more about the boxes than Percy, and is more control than anyone. Percy kills the Engineer and promotes Birkhoff. Jaden blocks Alex from exiting the hole she entered, and looks through Alex’s room to find the blackmail picture. She doesn’t find the picture, but finds her fingerprint.
- Owen gives Nikita the black box and she destroys it.
Review: The stoic and mysterious Michael took centre stage in this week’s episode of Nikita, as we were finally given insight into his reasons for both joining Division, and, more importantly, staying there.
To its credit, the show’s flashbacks always examine a character’s motivations for their seemingly inexcusable actions, and they always do so in an interesting way that has yet to feel contrived or unnecessary. Other shows would claim to use flashbacks for the same purpose, but it’s undeniable that some are guilty of using them as little more than cheap filler and in scenes which hold one’s interest with the same ability as a sock can hold a pint of lukewarm wee.
The flashbacks in One Way delved deep into the murky and troubled past of Michael, who ranks as the character second-most in need of a bit of back-story (just behind the still diabolical-for-the-hell-of-it Percy). In Michael, we have seen a man whose moral compass has survived undamaged in his years of service to Division, to the extent that it seems highly incongruous that such a jolly good egg would even be seen dead associating with an odious little toe-rag like Percy, not to mention a nasty old bunch like Division. This week we saw his reasons for doing so: his family were brutally slain by a terrorist named Kaseem, and Percy held his only chance at getting his revenge.
Now, Shane West hasn’t exactly been the best thing about Nikita in its first eight episodes. No. In fact, truth be told, his pouting, growling-like-a-teenager-trying-to-get-served-for-booze sulking act was on the verge of becoming quite tiresome, as was his frightful goatee (although the beard hatred is irrelevant and probably more a personal thing of mine that stems from wanting to be sick whenever I see Noel Edmonds). This is not a slight against West himself: he hasn’t truthfully had the chance to do much more than growl his way humourlessly through every one of his scenes so far, but his quest for revenge displayed an acting range that could easily have been thought to be beyond him, and the fact that he pulled it off admirably added considerable weight and pathos to a character that had previously had none.
To West’s credit, his rage towards Kaseem was palpable and, most importantly, entirely believable.
Percy, in a rare display of altruism, had allowed Michael a free pass to get at Kaseem, but he had not foreseen Nikita stepping in to assist, to facilitate what she called Michael’s first ‘baby step’ to leaving division. Nikita saw to it that she and Michael formed an alliance to take out Kaseem, thus freeing Michael from his burden of debt to Division and gaining another ally in her struggle against them.
While the episode itself was distinctly light on the action, it was nice seeing the sparks fly between Nikita and Michael, and their pursuit of Kaseem did have a few standout moments. Nikita’s exploitation of a fat man’s love of women and football was entertaining enough, and Michael’s waterboarding was just as unpleasant as it needed to be to effectively get the point across. Division’s realisation that Nikita was involved was a bit daft, though. If they are capable of spotting her on a random CCTV camera in the Middle East, why do they have such trouble locating her on her – and their - home turf?
Nevertheless, the eventual dissolution of this newly regained partnership came about in a genuinely tense scene in which Michael stalked his nemesis at an airport, armed with nothing but a shard of broken glass, only to be foiled by Nikita in order to save his life.
It was sad to see his hatred of her as a result, especially as he would never have known she was responsible if she had decided not to continue her discussion with the local fuzz over the radio within his earshot (d’oh!). While this was all clearly just a stall to prevent him from leaving Division after nine episodes, it definitely left the show in a more interesting place than if everyone just got along. Whether he will reserve equal disdain for Percy as thanks for foiling the whole mission will be seen next week.
Less successful, on pretty much every level, was Alex’s storyline, which was so full of plot holes that it was practically transparent. Getting ‘rumbled’ for sneaking her way onto the over-amorous doctor’s computer was fine, if really rather stupid, backing Alex into a corner and forcing her hand (which happened to have quite a large needle in it). But her eventual blackmailing of the reanimated Jaden (where has she been?) into corroborating her story was a plan so flimsy it was would have fallen apart at the first sign of questioning. If Jaden is simply going to be brought out of the cupboard as and when Alex needs to be annoyed, then here’s hoping she meets an untimely end quite soon. Although, with the whelp Thom now firmly on the full-time staff, it seems more likely that she will hang around for some time yet.
A decent enough episode to keep interest piqued, then, but with the highs the show has managed to reach before now this does has to be seen as the weakest effort so far. By no means a bad hour of telly, but some way short of the brisk and intelligent storytelling seen in previous episodes.

An attractive woman bringing in her shopping after dark. A hooded ne'er-do-well lurking in the shrubbery. An irritating, yappy little dog with a face like a startled scrotum. If these images seem familiar for some reason (besides that of the the ballbag, hopefully), it is because the opening scene of this week's episode whizzed by as one slasher movie cliché strung after another, intercut with a leatherclad MS Q. hurtling valiantly to the inevitable rescue atop her snarling two-wheeled steed.
Yet, as Anna Harcourt laid dead in her kitchen, leaving the previously infallible Nikita dealing with the bitter realisation that she was seconds away from saving her, and with Thom revealed as the contrite but merciless assailant, by the time the prologue was over we were set up admirably for what eventually became a top-notch hour of television. Well, a top- notch half-hour, anyway.
For a show only in its eighth episode, it would be worrying, indeed, if a plot at this early stage could seem par for the course, but for the first half-hour, this is exactly what it was. We had the corrupt public official buying Division's services in order to erase the evidence of an affair with a subordinate, as well as the pregnancy that arose as a result, with Nikita seeking to expose the truth to a, no doubt, aghast public, thus bringing shame on the Government and further woes to dear old Percy.
Nikita's investigation into Anna also repeatedly kicked us in the face with cliché, introducing us to the oblivious boyfriend with a heart of gold, taking us to the least secure ‘Secure' meeting place ever ripped straight out of True Lies (allowing Nikita to break in and eavesdrop on incriminating conversations between a senator and a shady government agent really quite easily), and also Anna's Federal workplace, accessed via stolen keycard and populated by some of the least perceptive and most abominably stupid individuals ever to figure out how to walk bipedally.
Seriously, if you work for the government and don't notice an extraordinarily beautiful woman accessing your colleague's computer, using her phone, and lifting other people's possessions right from their desks, then you should just empty your desk out and go and stand in the nearest dole queue.
The episode, in fairness, did seem to know exactly how silly it was being at times. Nikita's method of speaking in any Eastern Bloc language seems to be exactly that which is utilised by fat, drunken stag weekenders that venture to these same countries to have sex with local prostitutes. That is, take a word, and add ‘ski' on the end. Brillski. Indeedski. Enoughski nowski.
At almost exactly the halfway point, however, things suddenly got a lot more interesting.
Anna's parents' serene, depressed house became the setting for the best fight sequence of the series thus far, reminiscent of the Eastern martial arts films it was unashamedly influenced by, where any household item was a potential weapon. We had vases, tables and even a vacuum cleaner being utilised for purposes to which they are unaccustomed, and the close-quarters quick-cut nature of the bout accentuated the brutality of the eventual death that occurred (which reminded me a lot of Ghost. (You know, err, in a cool, manly way. Shut up.)
By far the most interesting point raised by this great scene is that so far we have been led to believe Nikita is nigh on invincible. But here she is beaten and, not only that, forced to operate against her will for people she doesn't like one bit, with an injection that liquefies the stomach in twelve hours unless an antidote is administered? That is nasty, dawg.
The fact that the antidote could be found in only one other place (the medical wing at Division) is about as deus ex machina as it is possible to get, but this is forgivable, and it did at least provide Alex with something useful to do. Alex was very much in a supporting role this week after a couple of episodes in the limelight, and a bruised wrist and her underhand seduction of the whimpering Thom was almost all we got to see of her.
This is because the show wisely kept focus on the main story thread. The revelation that Anna was not the victim she appeared to be lent the second half of the show momentum the first sorely lacked. Not only did we find out that Division was involved in a seemingly justified assassination, we were also introduced to an intriguing organisation called Gogol, headed up by the brilliantly smarmy Ari Tasarov.
Tasarov appears to be a character we will get to see much more of. This is very good news. He secretes the arrogance and cold charm that you sometimes wish Percy had, but in the introduction of Tasarov it seems Percy's comparative benignity is intentional, as they are opposite faces of the same evil coin. His admission of his knowledge of Percy's black boxes and his offer of allegiance with Nikita paint him out to be a major player in future episodes, and while there's no doubt at all that the any of your enemy is most certainly not your friend, his relationship with Nikita will be an interesting one.
So, while the episode wrapped up its own plot quite nicely, with the senator exposed, Thom unconscious and Michael pouting down the barrel of a gun he is once again not firing at Nikita, it left Division with a whole heap of new problems to add to all the old ones.
Very much an episode of two halves, the sloppiness of the first was very much undone by the pace and plotting of the second.
Questions we are left with:
* Where is Jayden? * Will Thom ever complete a mission conscious? * Is a dog licking a person's face, like, gross, or what? * Will Nikita play Devil's advocate with Gogol? * When will Michael eventually just give it up and switch sides? * Will Owen and the other rogue agents side with Gogol?
- The recruits are paired into groups and Michael tells them to chose their enemy and their ally.
- Flashback to Nikita and Alex, in their preparation for her insertion to Division. Nikita tells Alex she might make friends and sympathize for the other recruits. Alex’s team fails due to a younger recruit, Sara, who is scared. Sarah tells Alex she is activated and Alex tells her she will help her prepare. Nikita tells Alex that low-ranking Sarah is being sent on a suicide mission. Sara won’t tell Alex about her mission, and thinks Percy trusts her.
- Amanda and Percy talk about Sara’s mission, and how her vest is filled with remote controlled explosives. Amanda says she was set for cancellation, anyway. Sara goes on her mission and Nikita comes in to save her. Michael learns Nikita is alive. Nikita throws Sara’s vest under a Division van and blows them up. Percy is speechless and Michael is furious.
- Nikita brings Sara back to her house and tells her she’s trying to prevent what happened to her. Nikita gets Sara to a new identity and Sara takes off. She won’t leave and approaches the lawyer that sold her son, who she was forced to give up for adoption. Sara and Nikita escape since Percy orders Michael back to Division.
- Alex talks to Robbie, who believes that Division is good. Robbie sees Division as something that makes his life better. Robbie gets promoted to guard instead of agent, and puts Division in a code black by shooting everyone in sight.
- Sara gets to see her son before starting her new life. Amanda keeps Robbie alive when everyone else thinks he’s dead.
In a flashback, Nikita and Alex visit Nikita’s grave. Nikita explains that Alex’s father was a target of Division, and that when Division burnt down her house, Nikita dragged her out. Alex refuses to believe it. Nikita brings Alex’s ID and information to prove that she saved her life. She gives her money and a new ID to start a new life. Alex goes back to Nikita to tell her she wants to be trained.
- Alex chats with Nikita during an assignment, and Michael visits Percy, who tells him that Nikita and the agent she was with are dead and at the bottom of the river.
- Owen wakes up in Nikita’s safe house and they fight. They talk about Owens plan, and how it wouldn’t have worked and he and Emily would both be dead.
- Alex goes on her evaluation interrogation. Percy joins in on the viewing and they talk about her abilities. The interrogation suspect, who’s really a Division agent, attacks Alex, and Michael soothes her under Percy’s watch. Amanda and Percy consider the two’s interaction.
- Nikita and Owen talk about how Division made them both the same. Nikita describes Daniel and how they wanted to start a family, and how Division killed him before she arrived at one of their vacation houses.
- On the way to an off-site mission, Alex and Thom talk about the kiss being just a kiss. The buss on the way to the mission gets attacked. Alex thinks she gets kidnapped by the brother of the interrogation subject, when really it’s Division overlooking how she handles being abducted. Birkhoff and Michael talk about how long she will last. They do this because Alex wouldn’t electrocute her suspect, so they want her to feel that her enemy won’t have mercy.
- During Alex’s ‘interrogation’, she admits she’s not really a part of Division. Alex tells her story to the ‘interrogator’. Percy is slightly impressed. The ‘interrigator’ tells Alex that Thom is going to be killed if she doesn’t tell the truth. They bring in Thom, who Alex thinks is dead since Division shot him up with serum. They push her to the limit and Alex escaped.
- Owen tells Nikita there’s six more black boxes guarded by other Guardians, who were handpicked by Percy. Owen tells Nikita about his discovery of killing innocent people, and falling in love with Emily and having her taken away from him. Nikita tells Owen that she will stay with him until he heals, and Owen tells her that he’s the one that killed her fiancé.
- Alex calls Nikita to tell her what happened, and Nikita lets her know it was all a set-up. Owen tells Nikita to kill him.
- Michael insists on being the one to pursue Alex, and finds her at the gas station the same time Nikita arrives. Michael takes Alex back to Division and Percy tells Michael that the test wasn’t only for Alex, but for Michael too.
- Michael visits Alex’s dorm and tells her he will protect her, and that they are always being tested. Owen escapes Nikita and goes to Montreal to get the black box. He wants to be on his own.
- A bank robbery takes place in Montreal while a man, Owen, who took off from Division much like Nikita did, was in the middle of opening a little black box, but was interrupted and and took off.
- Alex overhears Percy and Michael talking about a trip to Montreal and informs Nikita. Michael and Percy get into an argument as Michael is now questioning everything Percy is going.
- Michael and Nikita find the same information at the same time and Nikita takes off to Montreal and goes into a woman’s house in order to stay near the crime scene and then locates Owen after stealing his mail. Nikita finds Owen and the black box he got from the bank. Nikita and Owen fight, and he sees property of the girl Nikita had contact with, Emily.
- Owen calls Percy and tells him he protected the box over killing her and Percy tells Owen to terminate her on sight next time. Nikita tells Alex to dig up Owen Elliot. Thom starts to suspect Alex and her motives. Alex snatched Birkhoff’s fingerprint and gets into Percy’s office, followed by Birkhoff himself and Michael. Michael makes Birkhoff look up information on Owen, and Alex hears all of the info. Thom catches Alex leaving Percy’s office, and tells her he’ll turn her in if he sees her doing something like that again.
- Nikita shows up at Emily’s house, and Emily reminds her of Nikita’s dead fiancé. Nikita explains to Emily that in Division you cannot have a significant other who’s a civilian and tells her she can save Owen and right before he delivers the box to Owen, Nikita calls Owen and tells him to come to Emily’s house. He shows up and Nikita tells him she wants to save him and Emily from Division. Nikita tells Owen that the block box contains evidence of all of the cases Division has dealt with. The black box is leverage for Percy and he is untouchable with that box.
- Division kills Emily, tortures Owen and Nikita escapes. Owen tells Percy about Emily, and Alex chats with Nikita about Owens information. Alex inserts a recorder into Birkhoff’s pocket and gets a Bluetooth to listen to the conversation.
- Division has a meeting about the security breach that Birkhoff made up so one of the recruits would take the fall of being in the office instead of himself and Michael. Michael steps him and tells Birkhoff he’ll take responsibility and to let the recruits go.
- Owen escapes from Division’s hold and goes to kill Percy. Nikita stops him because the black boxes will be let into the world and innocent people will die. Owen turns his back on Nikita and they fight, resulting in Percy shooting Owen and causing them to run for their lives.
- Alex goes to Thom’s room to thank him for keeping her cover. Thom kisses Alex and then kicks her out. Nikita saves Owens life and we see him lying in Nikita’s bed recovering.
Episode Guide: - Alex and Nikita are chatting online. She tells Alex to be ready to let her know when Division responds to what she’s about to do.
- Nikita meets with someone who’s husband [Victor] she killed. She tells her that she needs to go upstate and protect herself so Nikita can go after the people who hired Division to kill Victor.
- Nikita visits fashion division and meets with a designer who uses slave labor workers in the Red Circle Triad to make her clothes to get her to tell her where the sweat shop is.
- Alex is asked to disconnect a bomb under a jeep, but has flashbacks of a fire, resulting in a panic attack leaving her paralyzed and Thom drags her out.
- Amanda shows up as Thom consoles Alex.
- Birkhoff finds footage of Nikita at the fashion district, and Michael thinks Nikita is reopening the case from six years ago.
- Michael flashes back to Nikita’s training days at Division. Michael and Nikita have a fight, Michael winning with one arm behind his back. There is palatable chemistry between the two. Michael activates Nikita to the outside world for a mission.
- Thom and Alex are training when Alex sees Michael heading out with the team, knowing he is on Nikita’s trail. She tries to go to the computer lab when she is told she has to see Amanda.
- Nikita goes to the sweatshop and asks Alex if there is any trouble and receives no response from Alex.
- Nikita flashes back to her time with Amanda before her first op, who tells her she’s earned Divisions trust, and now has to earn a family’s trust. A trust so strong that they take Nikita into their family.
- The flash back goes to the family Nikita ends up getting a babysitting job with, and the parents immediately fall in love with her. The father works for Homeland Security, and Nikita freaks out a bit. Nikita is welcomed into the family.
- Back to current time, Nikita approaches the sweatshop, freeing all of the workers and telling them that whatever debt they owe to Red Circle Triad is cleared. Nikita burns down the sweatshop.
- Alex meets with Amanda to talk about her panic attack. Amanda brings up the time when Alex was held by the Russians and we learn that she was used as a sex slave, who was addicted to drugs. Amanda then drugs Alex.
- Nikita flashes back again to her time with the family, she’s playing with the baby when Michael instructs her to take the baby outside of the house. The husband is staying indoors. Nikita doesn’t want to hand the baby over to Division, but is forced to, since the child is in danger if she doesn’t. she baby is promised to be returned to the mother, as Division doesn’t have the authority to hurt the wife or the baby. The house is blown up and the husband dies. Michael tells Nikita he’s so loyal to Percy because he owes him his life.
- Back to real time, Nikita is surrounded by Division members and is still trying to contact Alex, who is locked up and restrained until she can get her heart rate down to a normal rate and then the restraint will react. If she doesn’t, she will not be able to do another op since she will be a liability and will be deactivated.
- Nikita poses as a photographer instead of a model, which Division suspects she will. She successfully gets into the Triad and kills the members who are speaking to the headquarters in Hong Kong. At the other side of the webcam is the father of the family. He never died, and recognizes her immediately.
- Nikita is devastated to learn that the father was a Triad. She felt bad that she thought she killed him, and she then learns that Percy and Victor are in cahoots. Victor was a dirty double worker. Michael learns that Percy did not share these details with him and made a deal with a criminal.
- Nikita goes to Hong Kong, and Victor has her tased and they come face to face. They fight about them both living a lie. Victor admits to his old family being a cover, and he has a real one in Hong Kong. She remembers his allergy to peanuts and kills all of his guards. Michael shows up in Hong Kong and kills one of the guards that tries to kill Nikita, then lets her drive away with Nikita.
- Alex and Amanda work through her anxiety issues. Amanda wants Alex to tell her about her pain to let it go and Alex says she likes her pain. Alex lies about the story of her flashback, while watching the real happening go on in her head. Her heart rate drops and she gets out of the restraint.
- Nikita meets up with the mother of the family, who has decided that Victor is dead to her.
- Alex and Thom flirt, and Alex gets on to chat with Nikita and says everything’s fine.
- Michael tells Nikita he’s so loyal to Percy because he owes him his life.
Division is checking out information on a woman named Jill Morelli, a journalist who tracks government experiments on a blog. Jill has a source who can provide video of black helicopters landing at a crash site that contained loads and loads of cocaine.
- Nikita saves Jill’s life after Division frames her for murder and threatens to send her to prison forever unless she gives them the helicopter footage.
- Percy meets with the CEO of Air America, who paid Division to clean up after the plane crash. The CEO tells Percy that the job wasn’t done right since evidence of black helicopters is in someone’s hands.
- Percy tells the CEO not to let their deal leak out from the company again and the CEO assures him that it is someone in Division letting the information leak. Queue the curiosity of who it could be? Hmmm.
- While we find out Nikita reads Jill’s blog, and is trying to figure out what exactly Divison is after, Division is setting up a warrant for Jill’s arrest, saying she murdered her editor and is “armed and dangerous."
- Jill was contacted by an unnamed, unreachable source, who wants her to drive to Virginia to pick up the footage.
- Percy begins to consider a leak in Division.
- Nikita sets up a call-forwarding so Jill can speak to the source, and a meeting is set up for the next day.
- Amanda and Birkhoff meet, since Division now suspects him as the leaker since he’s the only one capable of hacking. No doubt Nikita’s plan all along. Nobody suspects Alex.
- Michael talks Percy into letting the recruits help in the case. This is Jaden and Alex’s chance to redeem themselves, with one week left of their probation.
- Jill questions Nikita of who the “commandos” aka Division is. Nikita explains that there’s no evidence of the existence of Division, and that the cocaine story will make Jill a legend.
- Thanks to Amanda’s scan of Birkhoff, we find out that Nikita planted a transmitter under one of Birkhoff’s molar caps when he was passed out.
- Alex is revealing the information of the case, without knowledge that it’s a real mission. She then finds out that it’s a real mission, and she’s in fact going against Nikita.
- Nikita and Jill find the source and see the footage of the crash and Division. Nikita has Jill upload the footage of the crash.
- Alex confuses Birkhoff and dispatches local cops to the location so Division is forced to split up. Jill surrenders and is taken away by the local police.
- Division enters the sources house and Nikita takes them down one by one, resorting to unarmed fight with Michael. She breaks her own arm, and leaves Michael unharmed.
- Alex is rewarded with a cd player and Jaden a television. They get to stay alive and at Division.
- The video gets on the news and Percy watches as one of his “clients” goes down in flames. Nikita and Alex chat and Nikita tells Alex that the mic Nikita planted in Birkhoff was discovered and they need to come up with a new solution to transmit information.
- Jill becomes famous with her footage and Nikita tells her to stop digging for more information on Division.
- The episode starts out with Nikita visiting a friend with very big guns, and her eye lands on a sniper. The friend knows Division is after her and attempts to kill her. Right, like you can kill Nikita. He ends up being smacked around by Division after Nikita gets the gun she wants and leaves.
- Michael and Percy take on a Slavic war criminal, but are unaware that other “agency” is also out to get him, and their share of the explosives he’s hoarding.
- Alex pretends to be lacking hacking skill in the classroom. as to not come off obvious, making her already rude teacher become annoyed with her. She seems to have a knack for gun building those. Like she said to Jaden, “must be the drugs."
- Despite playing dumb, Alex is activated on her first operation and goes undercover to meet with the criminal. She gets cocky, and things end badly when the criminal starts to go after her and Michael is forced to save her. During this, because of being warned, Nikita is nearby with the sniper gun and shoots one of the other agents, saving Michaels life.
- Eventually Division catches up with this agency and the criminal, and everyone ends up dead, except Nikita who got to him. Michael has a clear shot and lets Nikita live, yet again.
- We see a few broken up flashbacks of Alex’s life just one year ago when Nikita found out about her. We see Nikita save Alex from rape and put Alex through detox and save her life when she attempts suicide.
- We learn that Division is responsible for the death of Alex’s parents, giving Alex something to live for when she thought she had nothing. Now she can live to make sure Division goes down.
- The gun friend from the first scene ends up playing phone operator, as Michael and Nikita talk about Division’s plan and her involvement. Michael realizes that Nikita didn’t set up anything.
Percy (Xander Berkeley) and Michael (Shane West) take their latest assignment, a Slavic leader wanted for war crimes, into protective custody.
