Clark asks Pete and Lana for help picking out his tuxedo and cummerbund for the dance. Chloe walks up and informs them that the plant is closing. Clark goes home and talks to his parents about the closure. Jonathan blames Lex for running the plant into the ground but Clark defends him.

Whitney takes Lana on a surprise picnic and tells her he has important news – he is enlisting in the Marine Corp. Lana says she needs some time to process this, but he is shipping out on Saturday. Whitney asks her to wait for him while he’s gone.

Clark goes to the Luthor mansion where he finds the missing metallic piece of the spaceship on Lex’s desk. Lex says it’s a unique paperweight. Clark asks if he plans to go back to Metropolis, but Lex says he has a plan to stay in Smallville. Clark leaves and Lex puts the key away.

Clark goes to the Torch to make sure Chloe is up to going to the dance now that her dad has been laid off. She tells him her dad is thinking about moving to Metropolis and asks Clark to make the dance unforgettable.

Lex gathers a group of LuthorCorp employees together to lay out his plan. He wants them to join him in an employee-led buyout of the plant. He can come up with 90% of the capital if they can help with the rest.

Clark goes to the Talon and tells Lana that Chloe might be leaving. Lana tells Clark that Whitney has joined the Marines and that he wants her to wait for him. Clark asks what her answer was and she explains that she couldn’t decide.

Clark goes back to the farm. He gets into the farm truck and turns the ignition and the truck explodes. From a distance, Roger Nixon with the Inquisitor was filming it.

Lex tells his father that he is forcing the board to vote on accepting the employee buyout of the plant. Lionel hands him a contract for his purchase of the Smallville Savings and Loan and announces that if Lex pursues this course then he intends to foreclose on the employees’ mortgages if they make one late payment.

Chloe tells Clark her fear that Clark will leave her alone at the dance on Saturday. She thinks he might go to the bus stop to profess his undying love for Lana when Whitney leaves.

Nixon confronts Clark at the Talon, asking how he escaped from the farm truck unharmed. Clark claims he was nowhere near the truck. Clark goes back to the farm and tells his parents Nixon knows about the truck, and probably set it to explode. Clark then tells his parents that Lex has the missing piece of the spaceship. Outside, Nixon is electronically monitoring their conversation.

Nixon goes to the Luthor mansion, where he picks up the piece of the ship. Lex walks in and reminds him that he is supposed to stay away from the Kents. Nixon says he can prove that there is a lot more to Clark than he lets on.

Clark is trying to get ready for the dance when Lex drops by and helps him with his bow tie. Lex tells Clark that Lionel is against his buyout of the plant. Lex says that no matter what may happen in the next few days, he’s still Clark’s friend and hopes Clark feels the same.

Chloe arrives at the Kent farm to pick up Clark for the dance. Nixon watches from a distance with binoculars, and has the missing piece of the spaceship with him. At the high school, it has become extremely windy as a storm starts to move in. Whitney asks for a minute alone with Clark. He tells Clark he wants him to look after Lana for him while he’s gone. Lana pulls up outside to drive Whitney to the bus station.

Lana and Whitney arrive at the bus station where she gives him her kryptonite necklace for good luck. They say goodbye and Whitney gets on his bus. Back at the Kent farm, Nixon goes down into the storm cellar and finds the spaceship.

Lana is driving back from the bus station and the storm has picked up. A piece of debris hits the windshield, causing her to swerve off the road into a ditch. She gets out of the truck and sees three tornadoes approaching.

Meanwhile, Jonathan and Martha head for the storm cellar to take cover. In the cellar, Nixon holds up the piece of the spaceship. The piece is ripped from his hand and floats into its corresponding spot on the ship. The ship starts to hover as Nixon runs out. Jonathan goes after him, leaving Martha behind. The spaceship begins to glow.

At the dance, Clark and Chloe are dancing and about to kiss when an announcement is made about the approaching tornadoes. Clark realizes the tornadoes are close to the bus station, and abruptly leaves the dance.

Lex is at the mansion and realizes the piece of the ship is missing. Lionel walks in and they begin to argue. Behind them, the window explodes inward and a column collapses, trapping Lionel under it. He calls for Lex, who stands over him but makes no move to help him.

Clark superspeeds to the truck just in time to see it get sucked up into the tornadoes. He runs into the twister.

He plans on killing Lana to eliminate the only witness and cement his career: Clark intervenes and the deputy is subsequently killed in a shootout.

He found someone who looked just like Jude and paid him to impersonate Jude to "haunt" Lex in revenge for Amanda killing herself. Clark finds Lex's disk, but the gang try to kill Whitney. The leader's tattoo wears off, and he is crushed beneath a car as Clark super-speeds to Whitney's rescue. Lex's rival finally manages to shake hands with Lex, and convince him to try and gun down Clark. Clark manages to knock out Lex and the recluse takes out his former partner, "convincing" him to shoot himself. EPISODE GUIDE:
In Metropolis, Clark is at a charity gala thrown by LuthorCorp. He is looking at a breastplate that belonged to Alexander the Great. Lana walks up to ask Clark to join her and Whitney. Clark is disappointed to see Whitney there and goes outside “to get some air.”

Outside, a Metropolis cop is beating up a man and tells him he has twenty-four hours to get some files from Internal Affairs, including his. Clark sees a bus that is careening out of control and stops it from hitting a homeless man and his dog on a street bench. He thinks no one saw him and leaves before others show up. Unknown to him, the cop saw everything.

Clark tells his parents about what happened the night before, assuring them that no one saw him. Meanwhile, the cop is blackmailing a security guard from the gala to get pictures of the attendees. One of the pictures is of Clark and Lex.

The principal doesn’t like Chloe’s choice in stories and releases her from her position as editor of the Torch. Lana offers to talk to Principal Kwan to see if she can do anything to help.

In the Beanery, Lex runs into the cop, Detective Phelan. Phelan had been paid by Lionel in the past to fix situations that Lex got into when he lived in Metropolis. Phelan asks Lex if he recognizes Clark from the picture and Lex claims he doesn’t.

Back on the farm, Clark walks into the barn. He sees a Metropolis PD badge on the floor and Phelan drops a generator on him, which he easily tosses aside. Phelan wants Clark to help him. Clark says he will never help him, but Phelan blackmails him by threatening to reveal his secret if he doesn’t.

Clark tells his parents what Phelan did, and Jonathan tells him he will deal with him. Lex comes by and tells Clark to stay away from Phelan, that he’s a crooked cop. Jonathan goes to the Beanery to confront Phelan. The detective now threatens Jonathan, which causes him to lose his temper. Phelan warns that his temper could get him in a lot of trouble.

Lana walks into the Torch and says the next issue can come out as planned, with the condition that Lana is the new editor. Chloe gets angry, feeling that Lana is taking over her paper.

Lex and Victoria Hardwick are eating dinner. Victoria is the daughter of one of Lionel’s competitors. Lex explains that he knows she is there to convince him to give his shares in LuthorCorp to her father so he can take over the company. Lex counters with a proposal for Victoria to take over her father’s company instead.

Phelan picks up Clark and makes him break into the apartment of an Internal Affairs official to get his files from a safe. Clark breaks in and throws the safe down on top of Phelan’s car, just as the police pull up. Clark superspeeds away, leaving Phelan with some explaining to do.

The sheriff shows up at the barn with a warrant to search the Kent farm. The police find a dead body in the barn and a gun in the truck and arrest Jonathan. Phelan has planted the body in the barn and now wants Clark to steal Alexander the Great’s breastplate in the Metropolis Museum. Clark successfully breaks in, but throws the breastplate out a window where it lands in front of Lex and the police, who are responding to a fake bomb threat that Phelan called in. Phelan shoots at Clark, who superspeeds away. The police come in and Phelan dies in the resulting shootout, taking Clark’s secret with him to the grave.

Lionel Luthor flies in and refuses to negotiate, so Lex goes to confront Earl. Earl lets the kids go while keeping Lex. A gas main starts leaking and Lionel orders the plant into shutdown. Clark remains behind and using his x-ray vision finds the hidden Level 3. He, Earl, and Lex (who pleads ignorance) go down there. Earl starts jittering again, almost killing himself and Lex. Meanwhile, Lex gets some odd undefined results on his blood workup for a LuthorCorp health test. Sean starts moving through his black book of other girls, freezing them solid. Meanwhile, Lex has given Clark tickets for a concert to go with Lana, and even supplies the limo. However, Clark hears about Sean's path of destruction and leaves, just in time to rescue Chloe. He then confronts Sean but gets frozen himself. Fortunately, the process proves less than fatal for the super-powered Clark. As Sean goes for Lana and Clark's parents who are at Lex's manor, Clark intercepts him and throws him into the nearby lake, freezing him solid in the water. At the end Lana resolves to just be friends with Clark.

EPISODE GUIDE:
Clark starts experiencing "vision problems" which of course mean his "x-ray vision" is starting to develop. Meanwhile, prominent figures such as Lex Luthor are committing crimes such as bank robbery. It turns out a girl named Tina, who idolizes Lana, had soft bones as a child and was "cured" by kryptonite radiation: she now has the power to alter her physical form (and, conveniently, her voice, hair, and skin) to look like anyone she wants. She inadvertently killed her mother, and now plans to kill Lana and take over her life. Clark, with his x-ray vision, is the only one who can make out Tina no matter what form she takes due to her irradiated bones.
